2021 China-South Korea Youth Expedition Team” Visiting the Yangtze River Delta Region Commenced

      Xinmin Evening News: (Journalist: Jiang Yuezhong; Intern: Chen Hanbing) Last night, the opening ceremony of the event of “2021 China-South Korea Youth Expedition Team” Visiting the Yangtze River Delta Region, co-sponsored by Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association and Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, was held on “Yuexing #6” Cruise on the Huangpu River. Besides South Korean guests, students from Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Ocean University, Shanghai Business School, Zhejiang University, and Soochow University also took part in the event.

         It is reported that the event last for three days. During the event, students learning Korean in Shanghai and South Korean students studying in Shanghai were organized to visit historic sites reflecting the history of the Korean Independence Movement and the Chinese Revolutions in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region. The intent was to further China-South Korea friendship through looking back in history. In the afternoon, students visited the Site of the First CPC National Congress, the Site of The Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, the Meixuan Memorial Hall, etc. Later students will also pay visits to historical sites in Yangzhou and Nanjing, and listen to introduction given by Chinese and South Korean scholars to the history of the two countries joining hands in fighting against the Japanese.

        Dao Shuming, Vice Chairman of Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association, presented a speech at the ceremony, saying that “young people are the future of the world, and the future of a healthy relationship between China and South Korea.China-South Korea friendship should be safeguarded and inherited by young people in both countries”. The visit to the Yangtze River Delta region is not only a journey of patriotism education intended at learning the lessons of history, but also a cultural tour that enriches students’ knowledge and promotes the exchanges and friendship between Chinese and South Korean youths.

        Kim Seungho, Consul-General of the Republic of Korea in Shanghai, thanked Shanghai Public Diplomacy Association and Yangzhou Public Diplomacy Association for the active cooperation and support. He stressed the fact that China and South Korea are neighboring countries, and expressed his hope that students from both sides would comprehend the wisdom of China-South Korea friendship and learn how to strengthen good neighborly and friendly relationships between the two countries. He also encouraged students to learn from each other, and contribute to China-South Korea friendship.

         Zhang Yuejin, Chairman of Yangzhou Public Diplomacy Association and Rotating Chairman of the Joint Meeting Mechanism of the Yangtze River Delta Public Diplomacy Association, attended the ceremony in person, and gave a speech. Also present at the ceremony were Vice Director Min Shilin and Vice Chairman Sun Xiaoshuang from the Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Shanghai Political Consultative Congress.
