On the evening of August 9, 2022 (GMT+8), the opening ceremony for seminar on Green Development and Sustainable Investment for Developing Countries, hosted by Ministry of Commerce and organized by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai) was held online. Chen Wei, executive vice dean of International Education College of Shanghai Business School and Cong Haitao, associate professor of Finance and Economics college attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Online opening ceremony

Chinese President Xi Jinping mentioned at the High-level Dialogue on Global Development, “China has always been a member of the big family of developing countries. China will take pragmatic initiatives and continue to support the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” From sustainable development to scientific development to green development, it reflects both the innovation of China’s development philosophy and its contribution to the world’s development philosophy. Holding this seminar is a pragmatic move to implement the foreign commitments of state leaders and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with developing countries. It will help enhance exchanges between China and other developing countries at multiple levels and in multiple fields, and further promote international development cooperation.

Speech by Chen Wei

Chen Wei said that in the context of continuing to deepen the “finance + technology” and “finance + ecology” strategies, this seminar is led by promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind, and aims to promote the development of green development and sustainable development in China and the participating countries. The exchanges and cooperation in the field of investment have opened a new window of opportunity for China and the participating countries to complement each other’s advantages and develop together, and provide new development opportunities for improving the well-being of the people of all countries.

Speech by expert representative, Cong Haitao

Cong Haitao, speaking as an expert representative, said that China’s green development path is not simply a return to ancient wisdom, but extensively draws on the achievements of modern institutional civilization and new fiscal and financial tools, and she hopes to learn and exchange with each other through the seminar and share the achievements and experiences on the road of green development.

Speech by participant representative

Ms. Sozan Mahdy, Senior Environmental Researcher of the Ministry of Environment of Egypt, representing the participants, expressed her gratitude to the program organizer and the host for giving this training opportunity. China and Egypt are both countries with a long history. Egypt is the first African Arab country to establish diplomatic relations with China. It is also a developing country that has established strategic cooperative relations with China very early. It is hoped that this seminar will further deepen the friendship between developing countries and promote green development and sustainable investment cooperation.

The seminar will last 21 days and 54 officials from 8 countries, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and Kenya, will participate.
