Seminar on ‘Belt and Road’ National Trade Promotion Concluded with Success
On the evening of November 9th, 2021, Beijing time, an online graduation ceremony was held for the Seminar on ‘Belt and Road’ National Trade Promotion . This Seminar was organized by the Ministry of Commerce of China and hosted by MOFCOM Training Base for International Business Officials (Shanghai). Fang Meng from Shanghai Municipal Division of Foreign Economic Cooperation, and Chen Wei, Vice President of SBS College of International Education, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches.
Chen Wei gave a summary report on the seminar and pointed out that this seminar aimed to share the experience and practices of China, especially of Shanghai, in trade promotion, so as to level up the trade cooperation between China and the other ‘Belt and Road’ countries. To this end, the seminar invited experts and scholars from Strategic Research Institute of Shanghai International Trade Center, Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, East China University of Political Science and Law, Shanghai Free Trade Zone United Development Co., Ltd., etc., to share their practical experience and research results.He expressed his hope that the students would bring to their fellows the knowledge and experience gained during the study, holding high the banner of globalization and promoting the trade development in their countries, as well as the continuous development of multilateral and bilateral trade.
Maggie Maria, senior administrative officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Zimbabwe, expressed her gratitude on behalf of all the students to the seminar organizer and the host. She confirmed the students had learned the knowledge of building up Shanghai International Trade Center, the development history of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, China International Import Expo, innovation and reform of China Foreign Investment Law, etc. She looked forward to coming to China and feeling the rapid development once the epidemic ends.
Fang Meng said China has now become the world’s largest exporter and second largest importer ever since joining the WTO in 2001,its share in world trade increased from 4.3% to 10.4%, and became an important force in the steady growth of the world economy.Recently, the 4thChina Import Expo was held in Shanghai. It has given a strong impetus to the sales of high quality products from various countries in China, while local consumers have better opportunity to enjoy high-end products from around the world. It shows China’s vision of further opening up its domestic market, promoting economic globalization and achieving mutual benefits and win-win results with other countries. Under this background, the success of this seminar is a successful exchange and exploration between China and the other ‘Belt and Road’ countries in promoting trade development and cooperation.
The 14-day seminar was attended by 43 government officials and business executives from 13 countries including Azerbaijan, Cuba, Ethiopia, Kiribati, Malawi, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Zimbabwe and Guyana.
